EDH Night…

So I managed to get out and over to one of the local card stores tonight. There was a group of four just getting ready to start up so I joined as the fifth. Bonus points was no one was playing combo-centric decks, all just play stuff and have fun.

I of course was playing my Rhy’s Redeemed EDH; mostly because its my favorite deck I have right now (it’s so much fun).

Well the game started out quite well, I was pumping out puny little one ones and building a good board state up till a guy plagued wind. Then did it again, after several of us got back up and going. The same guy that plagued wind started to get the jump on the board and I managed to get Eldrazi Monument out and then proceeded to Wrath of God. I had such like eight guys out and was gonna wreck on my attack step, but in response to the Wrath one dude naturalized my monument. Womp Womp…

So my only consolation was that I happen to have a Sensei’s Divining Top and was able to dig and keep it safe by putting it back on top.

Well I manage to get Rhy’s back on the board and started making tokens. I had been setting up a Craterhoof Behemoth for three turns and in that time managed to get a Intangible Virtue out. The guy to my right had pretty much developed his board state and had five creatures out, (he was playing Damia, Sage so had a full hand every turn). He dropped a Pontiff of Blight and was starting to kill everyone by jsut playing cheap spells and extorting.

I had Eight Elf tokens finally, Rhy’s and then I dropped Crater Hoof. Swinging out with Eight 12/12 vigilant Elf’s at the Pontiff holder, 11 from Rhy’s at the third dude, and another 15 at the guy to my left (the fifth guy was already out of the game by then). So I lost three tokens to deathtouch, but was able to knock out the guy with Pontiff, and pretty much took everyone down to 15 or less life.

The board then gets cleared by some dragon who when it dies deals 5 damage to every creature.

My next turn though, thanks to Top, I dropped Worldspine Wurm. In response though it gets killed off and the guy gains 15 life (I can’t remember the spell he used). I though got three 5 wurms, who thanks to intangible are now 6/6 and vigilant. The rest of the game was easy because I just swung out and they were in top deck mode.

Fun times.

Do you still remember the very first MTG booster pack you ever opened?

What rare was in it? :3

For me, it was an M10 booster pack. It held Platinum Angel.

Mirage Lion’s Eye Diamond

omg this. XD

I don’t remember my first packs, I bought a tool box starter kit. Yet I do remember my first draft pack. In the first pack I opened a Elesh Norn, Grandcenobite. I built a mono white deck that performed horridly. I still have my Elesh Norn she bounces around between two of my EDH decks.

FNM 5/10/2013 Report….

Well I’m back from visiting family and thought I would report my FNM results from this past Friday.

Ended up going to a draft that had 36 people in it (which sucks because it took till 1:30am to get out of there, even though it started at 6:30pm). Anyways, I ended up going 3-3 and placed 11; but I felt like I should have done much better. I drafted three great rares that suited my deck very well; Skylasher, Temple Garden, and Desecration Demon. I ran B/W/G and had a lot of unleash, extort, and creatures upon creatures.

All of my matches resulted in me gaining lots of life, I was averaging close to 30. My three losses were just to stupidly overpowered decks for a draft; one guy had a poor mans version of BantAura’s, the other two just manage to out tempo me.

I have to say I usually hate drafting, but drafting a pack of each of this block was actually enjoyable. It was one of my better drafts I have had in the past six months, in which I think I have only drafted like 4 times at most.

I may actually try to get in on another one this week.

I also got a Aurelia’s Fury which I took because I just wanted it lol..

Not So deal of the day…

Every once in awhile you have to just say I’m paying that price for these cards. Though I always try to come out ahead, very far ahead, you still sometimes have to just pay the price for a card if you want it.

Sunday I did just that on a couple of cards. I came across a foil Advent of the Wurm and I wanted it for my Foil EDH Rhys/Trostani Token deck. It was priced at like $12 dollars but they were running a special of 20% off purchase. So I ended up getting it for like a buck less. I also picked up two other cards; a Notion Thief and Tajic, Blade of Legion, both priced at around $3 after the 20% off.

I know it’s kind of hard to believe some of the crazy deals I usually end up with, but this is an example of some of the times I do not make out like a bandit. There are other times like this, though few and far between because I’m cheap and don’t like paying crazy prices for cards.

Well that’s all for this post, hopefully I will have some new stuff or updates to whats going in MTG for me. Lately its just play some EDH whenever I can, haven’t really been into the tournament seen.

Check out my Japanese pack results of dragon maze. Not to bad. Advent of wurms, hallowed fountain, sky lasher, and pontiff. Some decent common uncommons to.

Pre-release story time… Dragon’s Maze edition…

I went in to the event wanting to play either Gruul or Golgari. I picked Golgari and ended up partner with Simic. My pulls were not stellar, actually none of them were playable; for example Biovisionary is unplayable unless you really need a 2/3 body.

Anyways, I did manage to make an alright deck. Focusing on evolve and scavenge I was able to put up a 3-1 record. My deck actually had did really well. All-star standouts include Dreg Mangler, Battering Krasis x2, Pilfered Plans x2, Phytoburst x2, Crocanura, and Prophetic Prism. The Pilfered Plans was surprisingly amazing; drawing two cards and milling two on your opponent is nice. Paired with Prophetic Prism my hand stayed full even though I was playing a very heavy creature aggro deck.

All of my games went much the same, hit turn three and start laying down creatures. My highest cost cards were Saruli Gatekeepers and Opal Lake Gate keepers at 4cmc. They did wonderful things when I had gates out, but also worked as the last card to trigger my evolve if needed. The Phytoburst is just awesome, even though its a sorcery. I swung out for 11 with Dreg Mangler one turn; I casted Phytoburst target Mangler, attack, no blocks or response, cast Simic Charm for +3/+3, hit for 11. That was a fun turn and my opponent was like turn for 11 attack, very nice.

So anyways, fun times.I won 4 packs and got several decent cards. I actually enjoy sealed and it was fun to play and glad it was only a four round tournament cause I get tired of sitting in the funk that starts to cover the store after 4 hours has passed and a bunch of dudes are just packed together.

Here are the rares I walked away with:

Advent of the Wurm (prize pack)
Beck and Call (prize pack)
Renounce the Guilds (prize pack)
Pyrewild Shaman (sealed)
Reap Intellect (sealed)
Emmara Tandrix (sealed)
Jarad’s Orders (sealed) (golgari pack) traded for a foil planes promo
Scion of the Vitu-Ghazi (prize pack)
Biovisonary (simic ally pack)
Catch and Release (sealed)

Thanks for reading and if anyone does not want their foil planes promo send them to me, I am going to use them in my Rhys/Trostani Commander deck.

Dragon’s Maze spoilers part 3 review….

Let’s dive in…

This card looks rather fun, especially in draft. Combat tricks are fun, but as always situation based. For a cmc of 6 it has potential to be a game finisher.

This guy below just makes for a fun game; let’s play top deck mode unless you have removal or get removal, but even if you draw a removal on your turn, it leaves you empty again. I like the flavor and it might find some niche play. Kaalia may like this guy once you have the dominant board presence.

What hasn’t been said already about Varolz? He is awesome and is gonna find a way to impact multiple formats. EDH, Standard, Modern are all gonna find some way to use this guy for max value. Scavenge you may just be the new best mechanic on the block…

If real and accurate, it may find its way into the reanimator strategies floating around. Little costly, but its an added effect to get you where you need to be. EDH will see some play for sure, because who can’t have enough ways to get cards back on the field. Also it gets permanents. I feel like the giant gaping hole is a “yo mama” joke waiting to happen…

I Feel this enchantment has the possibility to see play. We have plenty of 1/1 counters going around so why not get some card advantage off them. Rancor for trample and every attack is gonna net you a card draw. Standard, EDH, and limited are where it will see play most.

I am excited for this guy, (it just seems like Wizards want’s us to make a tri-color wizard deck). Mid game for an aggro deck will be very willing to lose a life and get two cards on the draw step. Once someone finds the perfect way to use him, he will be played. Possibly with the Varolz, you discard out to Lotleth have an empty hand play this guy and start getting two a turn. Thats probably turn four advantage right there. I dont know if this will see play outside standard, EDH has way to many card draw mechanics to make this guy useful. Also play this with Sire of Insanity for when you want to discard out but still be able to have choices on your next turn.

Stock up on the promo, that is all. Full art legendary cards are bank. He may not immediately trade high, but he will be worth several bucks down the road. Plus, he is awesome in multiple formats. I’m gonna try to get a play set if I can…

Well that is all that I’m excited for and I think thats the best of the spoilers of the day. Till tomorrow…
